Astro Blaster

Released by Sega in 1981, Astro Blaster is a fixed-screen shooter defined by its diverse enemy attack patterns and numerous secret bonuses. Players navigate through six sectors and 29 different attack waves by utilizing left-to-right movement, firing, and a "warp" feature that can be used once per sector. A key mechanic of the game is its fuel system; players must manage their levels carefully, as running out of fuel results in an immediate game over, even if lives remain. This introduces an intense layer of strategy, countered by a thrilling reward: in the final nine seconds before fuel depletion, all points earned are doubled.
