Karnov

Released by Data East in 1987 for arcades, this action game follows Karnov, an emissary of the gods, on an adventure in search of treasure. Players control the distinctively stout protagonist, utilizing nine optional items—such as ladders and magical wings found throughout the nine total stages—to defeat the monsters that stand in their way. The game concludes when the player defeats the final boss, "Alakatai," to complete the treasure map. The unique sound effect that plays when a life is lost remains deeply etched in the memories of those who played it at the time.

Once a former demon god who committed every evil imaginable and was subsequently banished by the gods, Karnov rises to atone for his sins. To recover lost golden treasures, Karnov sets out on a journey to lands teeming with enemies, utilizing his ability to breathe fire.
