Description

Released by Atari in 1981, Tempest is a landmark arcade game and the company's first to feature a color vector-scan display. Players use a rotary controller to pilot the "Blaster" ship, clearing enemies as they surge from the depths of the screen across 16 unique stages. The game's high-speed, pseudo-3D visual effects left a vivid impression on players at the time of its release. Furthermore, the "Super Zapper"—a powerful weapon that can be used twice per level—serves as a crucial strategic element for turning the tide of battle.
