Released by Konami in 1982, Pooyan is a unique fixed-screen shooter in which a mother pig operates a gondola to fend off wolves descending by balloon using a bow and arrow. The distinctive gameplay mechanics, which combine vertical movement with shooting, captivated players at the time, while the comical, charming graphics and upbeat music also became major points of discussion. Enjoying great popularity both in Japan and overseas, this title is one of the iconic masterpieces of the 80s arcade golden age, achieving a game balance that is both simple and deep.
Story
In this game, a mama pig named "Mama" boards a gondola and fights with a bow and arrow to rescue her children who have been kidnapped by wolves. Controlling the gondola as it moves up and down, Mama shoots down the wolves descending from the sky using balloons.
