Description

Released by SEGA in 1976, Heavyweight Champ is an innovative arcade game that sought to capture the immersive intensity of boxing. Players operate two large levers protruding from the cabinet, utilizing movements that mirror real boxing—such as directional maneuvers and hooks—to clear all ten stages. The gameplay style, which requires using one's entire body to manipulate the levers, generated such intensity that players were often left winded by the end of a match. It is also an interesting historical footnote that two different games with the exact same title were released by the company that same year.
