Released by Atari in 1985, Paperboy is a novel action game that puts players in the role of a newspaper delivery boy racing through a neighborhood on his bicycle. Featuring a dedicated controller modeled after bike handlebars—a rarity for arcade games at the time—it offered an intuitive and immersive gaming experience. With its unique design centered on tossing newspapers to targeted homes while dodging obstacles, the game became a major sensation and remains a timeless classic that was later ported to numerous home consoles.

Story

As a paperboy, the player rides a bicycle through a residential neighborhood. The goal is to deliver newspapers to the doorsteps of subscribers at just the right moment. Along the way, various obstacles stand in the way, including children running out, vicious dogs, moving cars, and even the Grim Reaper. The main focus of the game is to successfully keep delivering newspapers and maintain your list of subscribers.
