Rezon

Released by Taito in 1991 and developed by Allumer, Rezon is a side-scrolling shooter defined by its surreal and atmospheric world. Players must skillfully manage a protective "barrier" to suit the situation, utilizing a blend of offense and defense to break through relentless enemy onslaughts. Its highly original mechanical designs and uncompromising systems captivated many fans in the arcade scene of the time. The story is set on Earth following an attack by extraterrestrial lifeforms. Players pilot the SR-91, a fighter equipped with a Variable Armor & Weapon System (VAWS), to take on the invaders.
