Description

Released by Capcom in 1985, *Commando* (known as *Senjo no Ookami* in Japan) is a seminal vertically scrolling run-and-gun arcade game that defined a genre. Players control the elite soldier "Super Joe," tasked with infiltrating enemy territory alone to rescue prisoners of war and dismantle an antagonistic military force. Its pioneering gameplay—which introduced the ability to shoot in eight directions while advancing through continuous, scrolling environments—set a technical benchmark for action titles throughout the 1980s. This high-intensity, military-themed experience remains recognized for its significant influence on the evolution of side-scrolling and top-down shooters.

Story

Deep in the heart of a remote jungle, a fierce guerrilla war is raging against a menacing army plotting global domination. A highly trained operative known as "Super Joe" is deployed on a top-secret mission to dismantle the enemy's forces and destroy their command headquarters. Armed and alone, he must fight his way through treacherous terrain toward an impregnable fortress to rescue a large number of held prisoners.
