Description

Released by Irem in 1988, Ninja Spirit is a side-scrolling action game that captivated players of its time with exceptional graphics and high-speed gameplay. The defining feature of the title is its "afterimage" system, which allows players to manifest clones to assist with both offense and defense, providing a strategic and exhilarating combat experience that felt entirely new. By mastering an arsenal of weapons including swords, shuriken, and kusarigama to survive brutal encounters, players discover a distillation of action gaming that remains vibrant today. This monumental work cemented its place in the arcade scene by employing high technical standards to establish a unique, atmospheric vision of feudal Japan.

Story

Raised by a ninja, a young man named Tsukikage discovers that his parents were murdered by his mentor, the high priest Mumyo, and learns the truth about his own birth. Driven by anger and sorrow, he leaves the organization to become a nukenin (runaway ninja) and throws himself into battle to exact his revenge. Set in the Bakumatsu period, Tsukikage engages in a desperate fight to carve out his own destiny.
