Description

Released by Capcom in 1984, *1942* is a classic vertical-scrolling shooter set against the backdrop of World War II. As the origin of the "19" series that would lead to its successor, *1943*, the game earned widespread appeal and became a long-running hit thanks to its simple, intuitive controls: an eight-way joystick, a shot button, and a loop-the-loop maneuver for emergency evasion. Notable features include a system where destroying red enemy formations reveals power-up items, as well as a sprawling campaign spanning 32 stages. Although the original hardware’s sound output circuitry contained a known technical design error, the game remains cherished by players today as a monumental pillar of arcade history.
