Description

Released by Capcom in 1987, 1943: The Battle of Midway is a legendary shooter that inherited the mechanics of its predecessor, 1942, while significantly enhancing strategic depth with an energy-based life gauge and a wide array of selectable weapons. Dynamic elements—such as recovering energy through sustained attacks and the indispensable "mega crash" maneuvers used for emergency evasion—enthralled players at the time. With a level of polish that has not faded over the years, this title remains an essential work that symbolizes the golden age of arcade gaming and continues to be cherished by fans today.

Story

Set during the Battle of Midway in the Pacific War, the player takes on the role of a U.S. pilot, flying the P-38 Lightning fighter to challenge the Imperial Japanese Navy. Each stage consists of an aerial battle in the first half followed by a naval battle against an enemy fleet waiting beyond it. The player must fully utilize their equipment to fight through to the end and defeat the final objective: the battleship Yamato.
