Released by Konami in December 1987, A-JAX (known internationally as Typhoon) is a shoot-'em-up set in the year 2007, where players must fight to save humanity from an alien invasion. The game is notable for alternating between top-down and 3D perspectives across its eight stages, requiring players to master an eight-way joystick and three unique attack buttons to succeed. While originally intended for a large-scale cabinet, the game was ultimately released for standard arcade hardware. Though its level of polish was considered polarizing for a Konami title at the time, its ambitious presentation made it a memorable hit that left a lasting impression on many players.
