Description

Released by Capcom in April 1988, F-1 Dream is a top-down racing game that emphasizes deep driving mechanics, utilizing an eight-way joystick and a two-speed (low/high) gear shift button. Players choose from one of four race tracks and decide whether to equip a turbo boost before heading into a fierce competition consisting of one qualifying lap and two main race laps. While the game challenges players to reach the top by meeting the harsh requirement of finishing in the top six, its simple nature also reflects the technical characteristics of the era, including distinctive handling quirks and computational flaws. Notably, the high score for this arcade title is recorded as 92 points; the anomalies regarding movement at certain track edges and the point calculations at the end of the race are preserved as a valuable record of the original program’s design.
