Astro Fighter

Released by Data East in October 1979, *Astro Fighter* is a fixed-screen shooter in which the player maneuvers strictly left and right to engage the enemy. A defining feature of the game is its stage-specific enemy attack patterns, alongside a unique penalty system that advances the player's position if an enemy escapes, creating a constant sense of tension. The player’s ship utilizes an energy-based health system, which can be replenished by defeating the boss that appears after clearing four stages. Furthermore, a curious quirk stemming from the original development specifications has been identified where points are added to the player’s score during the demo gameplay.
