Description

Released by Sega in 1987 for arcades, After Burner is a masterpiece that redefined the history of immersive gaming by portraying aerial combat with an overwhelming sense of speed. The dedicated motion cabinet, which tilted violently in all directions, offered an unprecedented sense of immersion, as if the players themselves were pilots engaged in high-speed dogfights. The exhilaration of racing through the sky to an upbeat soundtrack while shooting down enemies with missiles shocked players at the time and continues to captivate fans to this day.

Story

You play as the pilot of the state-of-the-art F-14 Tomcat fighter, launched on a mission to destroy a secret enemy base. Across a theater of war consisting of 22 stages, you must advance by shooting down waves of incoming enemy aircraft with your machine gun and missiles. You are tasked with breaking through enemy forces at extreme speeds, repeatedly taking off from and landing on your aircraft carrier throughout the mission.
