Shoot Out

Released by Data East in July 1985, Shoot Out is an action-shooting game set in a pseudo-3D space. Players control a protagonist in a white trench coat, using an eight-way joystick and two buttons—one for firing and one for an emergency side-roll evasion—to gun down waves of approaching gangsters. Because the player remains vulnerable during the side-roll and enemy projectile speeds are extremely fast, the game demands a strategic approach centered on preemptive strikes. Consisting of eight stages in total, the game also offers the thrill of earning bonus points by strategically targeting specific objects throughout each level.
