Blockade

Developed by Gremlin in 1977 and distributed in Japan by Namco, Blockade is a landmark arcade title known as the progenitor of the "snake game." As players move across the screen, they leave a growing wall behind them. The goal is to survive by cutting off the opponent’s path or forcing them into an obstacle. Its extremely simple rules and the growing tension of having nowhere left to run established the thrill of competitive gaming. As a foundation for versus-style action during the dawn of video games, this machine continues to radiate a timeless appeal.
