Description

Released by Nintendo in 1982, the arcade game Popeye is based on the popular animated series of the same name. Players control Popeye as he navigates three looping stages, dodging the relentless attacks of his nemesis, Bluto, while collecting the hearts tossed down by Olive Oyl. Success depends on utilizing stage elements like buckets and seesaws, though players must be careful not to let the hearts fall into the water, which results in a lost life. True to the source material, eating a can of spinach grants Popeye temporary invincibility—accompanied by that iconic theme song—allowing him to send Bluto flying in a moment fans are sure to appreciate.

Story

In this game, players control Popeye, a sailor who must catch hearts, musical notes, and alphabets thrown by his girlfriend, Olive Oyl, to build their love. Meanwhile, his nemesis, Bluto, relentlessly pursues Popeye to block his path. Popeye can eat spinach that appears on screen to temporarily power up, allowing him to fend off Bluto as he progresses through the stages.
