Description

Released by Nihon Bussan in 1985, Mag Max is a vertical-scrolling shooter distinguished by a system that allows the player’s craft to power up and grow in size across three stages by collecting parts. Rare for shooters of the time, the game engaged players with the strategic necessity of targeting both ground and aerial enemies simultaneously, alongside the mechanical spectacle of docking and separating parts. Its game design, which tasks players with overcoming difficult situations through the efficient management of limited resources, established a unique world view that influenced many subsequent titles. Renowned for its innovative systems and high level of addictiveness, it remains a highly regarded masterpiece to this day.

Story

Aliens have conquered Earth, subjecting humanity to the control of the computer "Babylon" and systematically exterminating them. Humanity places its final hope in the "Mag Max," a variable mecha developed in secret, and launches it into battle. The player controls the Mag Max, repelling enemies while liberating the planet.
