Description

Released by Irem in July 1984, the arcade version of Lode Runner is a port of the classic personal computer game developed by the American company Brøderbund. Players infiltrate the Bungeling Empire to recover stolen treasure hidden in an underground vault and make their escape. While the controls are simple—using a four-way joystick to move and dig holes to the left or right to hinder enemies—strategic gameplay is essential, as players can earn bonus points by neutralizing or trapping their foes. Comprising 24 stages, this title breathed new life into the arcade scene of the time by blending puzzles with action.

Story

The player controls the protagonist, a Runner, who must retrieve gold stolen by an underground empire. To do so, you must dodge enemy guards while collecting every piece of gold scattered throughout each stage. Once all the gold has been recovered, an escape route will appear, leading to the stage clear. Along the way, the game requires strategic action, such as digging holes in the floor to temporarily trap enemies.
