Raiden

Released by Seibu Kaihatsu in 1990, Raiden is a vertically scrolling shooter in which players pilot the super-high-altitude combat bomber "Raiden," humanity's final line of defense against an invasion by extraterrestrial lifeforms. Developed with the involvement of staff from Toaplan, this title inherits the legacy of that company's famed Tiger series, challenging players to conquer eight stages using a refined control scheme consisting of an 8-way joystick and two buttons. The game’s premise notes that only two pilots in the world possess the skill to handle such extreme maneuverability, setting the stage for an intense battle that will decide the fate of the Earth. To access the maintenance test mode, please hold down both the 1P and 2P start buttons while performing a system reset.

In the year 2090, a mysterious extraterrestrial life form known as the "Crystals" invaded Earth, pushing humanity to the brink of annihilation. As a countermeasure, humanity completed the development of the high-altitude fighter craft "Raiden." As the pilot of the Raiden, you must stand against the Crystal army to protect the Earth.
