Description

Released in 1987 by T&E Soft, *Super Laydock -Mission Striker-* is a notable vertical-scrolling shooter for the MSX that serves as a pivotal bridge between the original *Laydock* and its sequel. Players pilot the advanced "Neo Stormy Gunner" spacecraft through 14 challenging stages to dismantle the massive Gilcen Empire fortress, Soleil. The game is historically significant for its co-operative mechanics, which uniquely allow two players to dock their ships for combined firepower, with one player handling navigation and the other managing armaments. Its integration of a damage-based health system and a mission-focused narrative solidified its place as a sophisticated entry in the MSX library.

Story

Following the successful liberation of Planet Baimuton, the Federation Space Force launched a full-scale offensive against the Gilson Army's home planet of Zonde. However, the Gilson Army unveiled a massive planetary fortress known as "Soleil," and its overwhelming defensive and offensive capabilities quickly pushed the Federation forces into a desperate situation. In response, the Federation ordered the deployment of the prototype "Neo Stormy Gunner" ships. As a pilot participating in the mission code-named "Mission Striker," the player must embark on a perilous journey to destroy the Soleil fortress and strike at the very heart of the Gilson Army.
