Description
Released by Compile in 1988 for the MSX2, *Aleste* is a landmark vertical scrolling shooter that pushed the hardware to its limits with unprecedented, high-speed scrolling. The game follows pilot Raymond Waizen as he takes control of the "Aleste" fighter to counter the rogue supercomputer DIA 51, which has turned its advanced AI against humanity. Renowned for its intense action, sophisticated weapon-upgrade systems, and technical prowess, this title launched an iconic franchise that remains a cornerstone of the shoot-'em-up genre. Its influence on later console shooters solidified Compile’s reputation as masters of fast-paced, high-intensity arcade gameplay.
Story
Set in a near-future Earth, the story follows the catastrophic malfunction of the supercomputer DIA 51 after it becomes infected by a lethal virus and begins an attempt to eliminate humanity. When his girlfriend, Yuri, is wounded during the initial assault, pilot Raymond Waizen takes action to stop the rogue intelligence. Boarding the advanced fighting machine known as Aleste, Raymond launches a desperate mission to defend the human race. Players must navigate through waves of enemy forces to deactivate the out-of-control computer and bring an end to the destruction.
