Description

Released in 1988 for the MSX2, *XZR II* is a distinctive action RPG from Telenet Japan that pushes the boundaries of its era with a dense, ambitious historical fantasy narrative. The game follows the protagonist, Sadler, through a complex journey across time and space as he uncovers clandestine plots involving international politics, religious history, and enigmatic shadow rulers. Utilizing FM synthesis to create an immersive atmosphere, the title challenges players with a fusion of overhead exploration and side-scrolling action. It remains a notable example of 1980s Japanese computer game design, remembered for its bold thematic scope and creative depth.

Story

After saving the world in the previous entry, the young Assassin leader Sadler is once again thrust into a monumental conflict that threatens the fabric of history. A shadowy, powerful force—having spent millennia manipulating global finance and international politics—now prepares to complete a mysterious "ultimate structure." Through his encounters with figures like Templar Grand Master Hugues de Payens, Sadler uncovers the truth behind a plot aimed at the "deconstruction of the universe." As religious and political conspiracies collide across time and space, Sadler must embark on a final mission to prevent global catastrophe and defy a hidden hand that has controlled human destiny for centuries.
