Description

Released in 1990 by Glodia for the MSX2, *Emerald Dragon* is a landmark "cinema-like RPG" that bridged the gap between traditional gameplay and cinematic storytelling. Through its expansive five-disk format, the game delivers an epic fantasy narrative centered on the protagonist Athol and his quest to reunite with the dragon who raised him. It is technologically notable for its sophisticated use of FM synthesis to create a lush soundscape, setting a high standard for narrative-driven RPGs on 8-bit hardware. This title remains a nostalgic centerpiece for players who seek an immersive, character-focused journey set against a backdrop of divine conflict.

Story

Raised by a dragon who once shared a bond with humanity, a young adventurer named Ataru journeys across the land, longing to reunite with his foster parent from whom he was separated long ago. His path shifts irrevocably when he reconnects with his childhood foster sister, Tamu, in their home village, drawing them both into a world-altering destiny. As they set out on a grand quest revolving around the legendary dragon, Ataru and his companions are thrust into a perilous adventure caught between the conflicts of gods and the hidden agendas of men.
