Description

Released by Sony for the MSX2 in 1987, *KiKi KaiKai* is a home conversion of Taito’s popular arcade action-shooting game. Set in a unique Japanese fantasy world, players control the shrine maiden Sayo-chan as she wields purification rods and mystical scrolls to rescue the Seven Lucky Gods from demonic forces. The gameplay challenges players to navigate hazardous environments, recover essential keys, and defeat powerful mythological bosses to progress. Renowned for its distinct folklore-inspired aesthetic, this title remains a notable example of the multi-directional shooter genre on 8-bit home computing hardware.

Story

In this action-shooting game, a young shrine maiden named Sayo-chan embarks on a perilous mission to rescue the Seven Lucky Gods who have been abducted by evil spirits. Armed with her sacred paper charms and a purification rod, she must battle her way through swarms of mythological creatures haunting the temple grounds and surrounding lands. Along her journey, Sayo-chan must locate hidden keys to unlock the path forward and confront the powerful boss monsters awaiting her at the end of each stage.
