Description

Originally released as a successful arcade hit by Capcom in 1984, the MSX2 port of *1942* brought the adrenaline-fueled intensity of World War II air combat to home computers in 1986. Players pilot the iconic P-38 Lightning fighter, navigating through fierce vertical-scrolling battles across the Pacific theater to take down enemy air fleets. Utilizing the MSX2's hardware capabilities to achieve smoother scrolling and improved aesthetics, this 1Mb ROM version stands as a notable conversion that effectively captured the spirit of the arcade original. The game is highly regarded for its "roll" mechanic, which remains a vital strategy for dodging incoming fire and turning the tide in high-stakes dogfights.

Story

Set against the backdrop of the Pacific Theater during World War II, players take command of the legendary P-38 Lightning fighter plane. Your mission is to engage in fierce aerial combat against swarms of enemy forces as you fight for control of the skies. From the battlefields of Midway to the shores of Iwo Jima, you must navigate through intense enemy formations while targeting a climactic final showdown near Okinawa. By skillfully utilizing the specialized "loop-the-loop" maneuver to evade incoming fire, you must penetrate deep into enemy territory to conquer every stage and complete your objectives.
