Description

Released for the MSX2 in 1985 by T&E Soft, *Hydlide* stands as a pioneering title in the Japanese action role-playing genre. Set in the magical realm of Fairyland, the game follows a courageous hero named Jim on his quest to recover stolen jewels and rescue the princess from the demon Varalys. Its open-world design and unique real-time "bump" combat system challenged players to balance offense and defense while exploring a cohesive, interconnected map. As one of the earliest examples of its kind, this classic remains a significant landmark in the history of Japanese computer gaming.

Story

In the mystical kingdom of Fairyland, peace was maintained for generations by the power of three sacred jewels. However, when an evil man stole one of these jewels, the balance of power was shattered, and the ancient demon Varalys was awakened from his seal. Varalys cast a dark curse upon the land, causing devastation and abducting Princess Ann, who was transformed and whisked away by his sinister magic. Amidst this encroaching darkness and despair, a brave young man named Jim rises to the challenge to embark on a perilous journey to save the kingdom.
