Description
Released by Enix in July 1988 for the PC-8801, *ANGELUS* is a command-selection adventure game that masterfully blends occult themes with Lovecraftian horror. The narrative begins with a harrowing, mysterious death during a dam construction project in Peru, pulling players into a globe-spanning investigation of an unnatural, disfiguring plague. Notable for its atmospheric storytelling, the game also features support for Sound Board II, enhancing its dark, unsettling audio presentation. As an early example of Japanese horror gaming, *ANGELUS* remains a significant artifact for its sophisticated integration of cosmic dread into the interactive medium.
Story
Something sinister is stirring in the corners of the world, marking the beginning of a terrifying mystery. During the inauguration of a dam built over a relocated pyramid in Peru, the vice president of the Bayern Company suddenly collapses, his body horrifically transformed by an inexplicable, agonizing disease—a plague that is simultaneously emerging in Japan. Brian, summoned back to London after learning of these events, confronts this lethal affliction firsthand during his flight, setting him on an inescapable path of destiny. As the death toll rises, Brian must investigate the connection between the victims, the mysterious glowing blue stones found at each scene, and the shadowy cultists manifesting in their wake. His pursuit of the truth will force him to infiltrate the very heart of an ancient, encroaching evil.
