Description
Released by T&E Soft in 1988, *PSY-O-BLADE* is a visionary science-fiction adventure for the PC-8801 that garnered attention for its ambitious, full-screen animation across every scene. The narrative presents a dual-perspective structure, tasking players with investigating a silent interstellar probe from space while simultaneously uncovering the origins of a rogue supercomputer, Raccoon, back on Earth. Beyond its cinematic aspirations, the game features a distinct "object selection before command" interface and incorporates a melody-based hardware protection system. Although it challenged the technical limitations of its era, *PSY-O-BLADE* remains a notable milestone for developers attempting to bridge the gap between static computer adventures and interactive, film-like experiences.
Story
In the year 2101, the interstellar exploration ship *Septemius 2* suddenly loses contact while returning to Earth. To investigate the disappearance and rescue the crew, a team led by Keith McDonnell is dispatched aboard the rescue ship *Cassowary*. Meanwhile on Earth, the artificial intelligence governing global systems, "Racoon," exhibits mysterious and erratic behavior, prompting a separate investigation by ground-based intelligence agents. As these two distinct narratives unfold in space and on the surface, the protagonists begin to uncover a vast conspiracy that directly threatens the survival of humanity.
