Description

Released in 1988 for the PC-8801, *Zavas* is a landmark role-playing game developed by Glodia that introduced a "New Type RPG" design, blending Japanese anime-style aesthetics with complex, Western-inspired gameplay mechanics. Players guide the protagonist, Mardy, across an expansive, open-world map as he seeks vengeance against the demon army that destroyed his home. The game is notable for its massive scale, intricate party management, and tactical, turn-based combat system that heavily influenced the development of future classics like *Emerald Dragon*. By emphasizing exploration and deep world-building over a rigid narrative, *Zavas* provided a uniquely challenging and highly customizable experience that defines the adventurous spirit of 80s PC gaming.

Story

Mardy, a young boy living in the peaceful village of Toma, loses his home and family when they are brutally attacked by the Demon King's army during a festival. Vowing to take vengeance for the destruction of his village, he sets out on a solitary journey. After a fateful encounter with the god Pootus, who grants him the power of immortality, Mardy embarks on a grand adventure across the continent of Aran-Palcha. Joined by a band of courageous allies, he traverses vast lands and dangerous territories to challenge the Demon King and save the world from destruction.
