Description

Released by Enix in February 1989 for the PC-8801, *Burning Point* is a command-selection adventure game that follows a novice detective investigating a suspicious death in California. The title is notable for its atmospheric mystery-thriller narrative and its full utilization of the Sound Board 2’s FM synthesis capabilities, featuring an evocative score by composer Kazuo Sawa. Delivered across five 5.25-inch floppy disks, the game represents a distinct era of Japanese PC interactive fiction, blending investigative gameplay with a cinematic approach to storytelling.

Story

In California, a newly minted private investigator named Mike Steele receives an inexplicable request from an elderly couple seeking to find their granddaughter, who was officially reported to have perished in a hotel fire. As Steele begins his investigation into the girl’s disappearance, he uncovers the long-buried secrets of her family's past. This probe soon leads him into the heart of a much larger, darker conspiracy lurking beneath the surface.
