Description
Released in 1987 for the PC-8801, *YAKSA* stands as the inaugural title from the legendary developer Wolf Team, blending side-scrolling action with strategic, role-playing elements. Set during the Warring States period of Japan, the story follows two young protectors who must re-seal a series of demonic gates after Oda Nobunaga inadvertently releases a destructive entity. The game is celebrated for its atmospheric, fantasy-infused narrative and a sophisticated soundtrack that pushed the limits of the PC-8801’s FM synthesis. As a hallmark of early software integration, *YAKSA* effectively bridged the gap between traditional arcade-style action and narrative-driven adventure.
Story
Set during the Warring States period, the story begins when the powerful daimyo Oda Nobunaga inadvertently breaks the seal of the "Makousen," an ancient gateway that kept malevolent forces contained. This catastrophe awakens the "Shimashin," a destructive deity who unleashes a legion of demons and the elite "Makou Trio" upon the human world to eradicate the Yaksa, the legendary guardians who once imprisoned them. Two young men, Saiku and Iori, discover they are the final descendants of the Yaksa and must embark on a perilous journey to re-seal all eighteen Makousen gates. As they navigate this war-torn landscape, they must master their hidden powers to thwart the god of destruction's ancient ambition.
