Description

Released by T&E Soft in 1990, *Rune Worth: Kokui no Kikoshi* is an evocative action RPG for the PC-8801 that showcases the platform's advanced FM sound capabilities and detailed graphical expression. The game follows a young protagonist—raised among mountain bandits—who discovers his royal heritage and embarks on a quest for vengeance against the "Vifo" assassin-mage guild that destroyed his homeland. Its design features real-time combat, dynamic lighting effects that cast shadows on characters, and localized dungeons that blend exploration with integrated mini-games. As a notable title from the era, it demonstrates the creative storytelling and technical ambition indicative of T&E Soft’s role in the golden age of Japanese computer gaming.

Story

In the year 1527 of the Divine Century, the peaceful and cultured kingdom of Saris is brought to the brink of ruin by the sudden invasion of a ruthless magical assassination cult known as the "Vifo." While the royal family falls before the invaders, a daring escape is undertaken to protect a young life from the chaos. Over a decade later, the protagonist is raised as a member of a bandit group, unaware of their true heritage or the dark history that connects them to the fallen kingdom. This peaceful life is eventually shattered, compelling the youth to embark on a perilous journey to uncover the secrets of their own birth and seek vengeance for the tragedy that destroyed their past.
