Description

Released by Square in 1986, *CRUISE CHASER BLASSTY* is a pioneering sci-fi RPG for the PC-8801 that features a unique 3D dungeon-crawling perspective and, notably, marks the debut work of composer Nobuo Uematsu. Players pilot the titular transformable mecha through a stratified, closed universe, fighting in turn-based battles against the "Inverse" rebels or the governing "Commune" based on their choices. With mecha designs provided by Nippon Sunrise and advanced animated combat sequences for its time, the game stands as a significant milestone in early Japanese computer gaming. This title is also remembered for its immersive space-faring setting, customizable robot mechanics, and the dramatic narrative branching that leads to two distinct endings.

Story

Within a closed pocket universe governed by the restrictive Commune, humanity survives aboard the massive mothership Ondina. Young adults are conscripted as bounty hunters known as "Incar-Mars," tasked with piloting "Cruise Chasers" to defend the station against a rebel faction called the Inverse. The protagonist takes control of a mysterious prototype machine named "Blassty" to navigate these conflicts. As the war intensifies, the pilot must confront the unsettling truths of their isolated world and decide their own path forward.
