Description

Released by Hudson for the PC-8801 in 1985, *Ice Climber* is a vertical-scrolling action game where players guide the characters Popo and Nana up icy mountains to reclaim vegetables stolen by a giant condor. Players use hammers to break through platforms and navigate treacherous, slippery terrain while avoiding hostile mountain creatures. As one of the early iconic titles from the Famicom era, this port brought the game's distinctive cooperative or competitive two-player mechanics to personal computer audiences. Its simple yet challenging jump-action design remains a quintessential example of 8-bit arcade gameplay.

Story

Popo and Nana, two intrepid young Inuit explorers, set out to scale treacherous, vertically scrolling ice mountains in a quest to recover their stolen vegetables from a giant condor. Armed with only their trusty wooden hammers, they must smash through ice blocks and navigate slippery platforms to reach the summit of each stage. Along the way, they must outmaneuver a variety of mountain-dwelling creatures that aim to halt their progress. As the pair ascends through increasingly difficult levels, they must rely on their platforming skills to conquer the freezing peaks and reclaim what was taken.
