Description

Released by Nihon Falcom in February 1985 for the PC-8801, *ASTEKA* is a pioneering Japanese text-based adventure game that transports players to the ruins of Palenque, Mexico, to uncover the secrets of ancient civilizations. It features an innovative command-input system that supports multiple sequential actions via commas and provides a unique "recollection" function to track the player’s progress. The game is celebrated for its sophisticated multi-window display and high-speed graphic rendering, which pushed the technical boundaries of its era. By tasking players with discovering the game’s objective on their own, *ASTEKA* offers a deeply immersive experience that blends archaeological mystery with experimental gameplay design.

Story

The ancient civilizations of Maya, Inca, and Aztec, once renowned for their massive stone temples, vanished long ago due to Spanish colonization, leaving behind many enduring mysteries. In the modern day, news reaches the protagonist that a new archaeological excavation has commenced in Palenque, Mexico. Driven by a desire to uncover the secrets of these lost cultures, the protagonist sets out on a journey to Central and South America. Upon arriving, the explorer must navigate the town and the surrounding ancient ruins, searching for clues that will piece together the puzzle of a vanished world.
