Description

Released in 1985 on the PC-8801, *AliBaba* by Starcraft is a noteworthy Japanese adaptation of Stuart Smith’s pioneering dungeon-crawl RPG. The game tasks players with navigating a maze-like world to rescue Princess Budur al-Budur from the clutches of Cojia Hassan’s bandit group. It stands out for its innovative features, including support for cooperative multi-player and the rare ability to complete the adventure without resorting to combat. This title serves as a significant example of early Western RPG influence on the Japanese home computer market, blending classic folklore atmosphere with strategic exploration.

Story

The kingdom of Shahryar is in turmoil after the princess Budur al-Budur is kidnapped by the bandit leader Cogia Hassan, aided by a traitor hidden within the palace. In response to this crisis, Ali Baba, a loyal servant of the Sultan, sets out on a perilous mission to infiltrate the bandits' impregnable cave and rescue her. As the player assumes the role of Ali Baba, they must venture through dangerous lands, overcoming formidable foes and hazards along the way. Throughout this quest, Ali Baba can rescue various allies to join his party, strengthening his efforts to defeat the thieves and restore peace to the realm.
