Description
Released in 1987 for the PC-8801, *Ys: Ancient Ys Vanished Omen* marked the debut of the legendary adventurer Adol Christin and established a cornerstone of the action RPG genre. Departing from the rigid, punishing systems typical of 1980s PC gaming, the title introduced a fluid "bump" combat system and a more accessible, narrative-driven experience captured by the slogan "Now, RPGs are entering an era of kindness." Beyond its intuitive design, the game is celebrated for its evocative storytelling and high-quality soundtrack, both of which became hallmarks of the long-running series. This pioneer of the genre remains a landmark title that successfully bridged the gap between complex computer role-playing games and exhilarating action.
Story
This game chronicles the first adventure of Adol Christin, a 17-year-old red-haired adventurer whose life would eventually be documented in over one hundred volumes of travel journals. While in the port town of Promalock, Adol hears unsettling rumors about the island of Esteria, which is plagued by a mysterious storm that prevents ships from approaching. Once a beautiful land known as the realm of the gods, the island is now besieged by an sudden influx of monsters that threaten the safety of its villages. Driven by his unyielding adventurous spirit, the young hero decides to set sail alone for the mysterious island to uncover the truth behind these calamities.
