Description

Released by Hudson in 1984, this title established the foundation for adventure games in the Japanese PC market with its whimsical, anthropomorphic vegetable world. By moving away from the complex English-language inputs common at the time and introducing a Katakana-based command system, the game invited a much wider audience into its story. Its unique, pop-style illustrations created by professional artists and its upbeat opening music made a lasting impact on players of the era. This masterpiece served as the cornerstone for numerous ports and spin-offs, making it an essential entry in the history of Japanese retro gaming.

Story

The Salad Kingdom, once a peaceful land where anthropomorphic vegetables and fruits lived under the rule of King Onion, has been seized by a coup led by the pumpkin Minister, Abbarrel. Declaring himself the Pumpkin King, Abbarrel has imposed a tyrannical rule and locked Princess Tomato, the daughter of King Onion, away in his castle. Players take on the role of Cucumber, the kingdom's greatest warrior, who must journey to defeat the Pumpkin King, rescue Princess Tomato, and restore peace to the realm by working with the resistance.
