Description

Released in 1984, this title stands as the debut work of Square, created by Hironobu Sakaguchi, who would later go on to produce the world-famous Final Fantasy series. Set against the tension of the Cold War, the game plays out as a hard-boiled command-input adventure where you infiltrate enemy territory as a spy to rescue a kidnapped doctor. The title featured innovative experiments for the era, such as a revolutionary map system that constantly displayed the player's location and a flexible input system supporting both Japanese and English. As the origin of a company that helped sustain the dawn of Japanese gaming history, it remains a legendary topic among retro game fans today.

Story

In the 1980s, amidst the escalating tensions of the Cold War, Dr. Zitan—a world-renowned authority on biological weapons—is kidnapped by anti-government guerrillas in the East African nation of B. Recognizing the gravity of the situation, Nation A dispatches its ace intelligence agent, Richard H. Benson, on a top-secret mission to the region. Leaving his beloved behind, Benson enters the war-torn enemy territory alone. As Benson, your sole and ultimate mission is to thwart the development of a weapon that threatens the world, rescue the doctor, and return home alive.
