Description

Released in 1987 by Telenet Japan for the PC-8801, *ANDOROGYNUS* is a distinctive vertical scrolling shooter that stands out for its unorthodox downward-scrolling orientation. Players control a bio-mechanical entity tasked with thwarting the anti-matter star "Urd" from causing cosmic destruction. The game is noted for its challenging design, including a unique transformation mechanic where the protagonist changes between male and female forms as the story progresses. With its strategic, weapon-dependent gameplay and rare scrolling direction, this title remains a notable, genre-bending entry in the library of 1980s Japanese computer gaming.

Story

The strange supernova "Urd," born from antimatter, threatens to plunge the entire universe into chaos by unleashing swarms of anti-biological entities that cause destructive matter-antimatter annihilation. Urd’s ultimate goal is to force a total reset of the universe's creation. To combat this unprecedented crisis, the "Andorogynus," a terrifying combat machine, was engineered with an ingrained instinct to destroy all anti-life. Created using the very anti-biological matter and antiprotons harvested from the enemy, this ultimate anti-living weapon is deployed into the heart of the crisis to decide the fate of existence itself.
