Description

Originally released as an arcade title in 1985, Commando (Senjo no Ookami) is a landmark action-shooting game that popularized the lone-soldier-against-an-army subgenre. This PC-8801 port, released by ASCII in 1987, allowed players to experience the intensity of the arcade original from home during the height of the combat game craze. The gameplay challenges players to navigate vertically scrolling stages, using only a machine gun and grenades to annihilate enemy forces. While historical opinions on the quality of this specific port vary, its influence on 1980s gaming history remains undeniable.

Story

Deep in the jungle of a hostile nation, an evil organization has built an impregnable fortress to plot world domination, leaving captured soldiers awaiting rescue. To break this crisis, a solitary, highly-trained operative known as "Super Joe" is sent on a top-secret mission, dropping directly into the heat of enemy territory. Armed only with a rifle and grenades, he must cut through waves of soldiers to reach the heart of the stronghold. A desperate and suicidal mission begins—can he survive against impossible odds to complete his objective?
