Description
Released in 1991 for the Sharp X68000, *PHALANX* is a quintessential side-scrolling shooter developed by Zoom that serves as a landmark title for the platform's library. Set in AD 2279, the game follows the pilot of the A-144 "Phalanx" as they infiltrate the overtaken resource planet Delia to neutralize a mysterious, fluidic alien life form. It is renowned for its challenging gameplay, distinct weapon-stocking system, and sophisticated FM synthesis soundtrack composed by Kenichi Kamio. This title reflects the high technical standards of X68000 software, combining intense tactical action with a unique, strategic approach to power-up management.
Story
In the year 2279, all communication with the 26th resource planet, Delia, is suddenly severed. After a scouting party reports a mysterious, liquid-like lifeform invading their systems, they vanish without a trace. In response to this dire threat, the commander of the special tactical fortress authorizes the deployment of the multi-purpose fighter A-144, codenamed "PHALANX." The pilot is now tasked with descending to the planet to reclaim the corrupted central system and engage the unknown invading force in a desperate battle for survival.
