Description
Released in 1990 by Wolf Team for the Sharp X68000, *FZ-AXIS* is a seminal action-shooter noted for being the first title to utilize the term "isometric" (quarter-view) to describe its perspective. Players pilot the advanced "NAP" mobile suit, navigating battlefields with high-speed movement while managing a customizable arsenal of up to 14 weapons. Set in a futuristic era where military combat has shifted to small-scale mecha warfare, the game follows the soldier Howard Bowie on a desperate mission to destroy the imposing "Bloody Axis" defense line. By combining intense, multi-directional combat with the X68000's sophisticated FM synthesis capabilities, this title stands as a landmark example of the high-performance gaming experiences characteristic of the platform's library.
Story
In a future where high-performance military satellites have rendered large-scale warfare obsolete, the era of specialized, small-scale tactical weaponry has begun. Disillusioned former soldier Howard Bowie has retired from the Federal Army to join "Undead," an elite foreign legion serving the military state of Elsilia. Now operating a next-generation armored mobile weapon known as a NAP, Bowie is tasked with the brutal mission of infiltrating and destroying the heavily fortified "Bloody Axis" defensive line. As a lone warrior who thrives only in the chaos of battle, he thrusts himself into a new, blood-soaked conflict to fulfill his objective.
