Description
Released in 1990 for the Sharp X68000 by Wolf Team, *Sol-Feace* is a technologically ambitious horizontally scrolling shooter where players pilot a high-speed craft to neutralize a rogue master computer. The game is highly regarded for its sophisticated use of multi-jointed sprite animation and dynamic weapon systems, which allow players to independently adjust their cannons for tactical versatility. Composed by Motoi Sakuraba, the soundtrack takes full advantage of the X68000’s powerful FM sound synthesis, cementing the title as a quintessential example of the platform's graphical and auditory capabilities. Its legacy persists through its unique mechanics and later adaptations, serving as a significant milestone in early 90s Japanese computer gaming.
Story
In a future where humanity has become dependent on a new supercomputer system known as "GCS-WT," the machine suddenly malfunctions and turns into a tyrannical dictator, threatening the survival of mankind. To counter this existential threat, the high-speed starfighter Sol-Feace is deployed into the heart of enemy territory. Pilots must navigate through seven intense stages of perilous combat, battling the computer’s massive mechanical forces. Their ultimate mission is to reach and disable the core of GCS-WT to liberate the oppressed Earth.
