Description

Released in 1989 for the Sharp X68000, *38-man Kiro no Koku* (A Day in the Life of 2049) is a standout entry in System Sacom’s "Novel-ware" series, exploring a gritty, near-future space colonization scenario. It holds historical importance as one of the first Japanese home computer games to support external MIDI sound modules, offering an enhanced auditory experience alongside its deep, text-driven narrative. As journalist Ken Aiba, players navigate a branching mystery that leads from a celebratory space station opening to a dangerous political conspiracy. This title showcases the creative ingenuity of 1980s PC gaming by blending complex, adult-oriented storytelling with cutting-edge technical innovation.

Story

In the year 2049, humanity faces a crisis on Earth due to extreme population density, resource depletion, and systemic collapse, leading nations to launch a joint space colonization project. Players take on the role of Ken Aiba, a journalist for the ONN social affairs department, tasked with covering the opening ceremony of the first human space colony, "SC1." While the assignment begins as a routine report on this beacon of hope for the future, a sudden and unexpected incident forces the protagonist into the heart of a vast conspiracy lurking behind the colony's establishment.
